Prepping For Denim Day

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and an important day in this month called Denim Day is celebrated on the last Wednesday of the month. This day was created after a case in 1999 in the Italian Supreme Court where a case was overturned from a rape conviction. The case was overturned because they believed that the victim's jeans were so tight that she must have helped the man take them off. Therefore, giving him consent to sex. The next day women who worked in the Italian Parliament wore their jeans showing that their decision was wrong. As a woman, I know the clothing I wear is never an invitation to rape. That's why I am here today to inform you on how you can use denim to protest against violence on April 25th, 2018.

On April 25th, I encourage you, your family, your friends, your coworkers, and anyone you know to participate. It may not seem like a big deal to wear denim but wearing it on this day will show that you are apart of ending rape culture and show respect for all victims of this crime.

I will be wearing my jeans on April 25th and I hope you all will join me. I also want you to capture this powerful movement and take pictures of you wearing your denim to be featured on the blog! I would love to share images of you guys participating in an event that is very important to me. As an advocate for Human Trafficking Rights I am strongly passionate about protecting the lives of any individual from having to go through this. No one should ever have to face sexual assault in their lives but every 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted.
